Theme:
“The King is dead! In the late hours of last night your father, and the King of England, tragically died under suspicious circumstances. Suddenly a troupe of guards, commanded by your cousin, burst into your room while you sleep and take you to the dungeon to lock you up – as the rightful heir to the throne you suspect your cousin is planning on murdering you so he can claim the throne for himself.”
Theming was good in the room, great attention to detail had been taken to provide immersion. There are lots of areas to explore, and the sense of exploration continues throughout the game. The room was very spacious and not at all scary. The only downside is the light level, it’s a very dark game throughout. I understand that this is within the theme of a Dungeon, but a little bit of ambient lighting may help players within the game. You are provided with good lanterns however so it’s more awkward (especially for the first couple of padlocks within a team of 2!) That being said, it’s a very very well decorated room with good use of story throughout and good quality props. Nothing was out of place.
There is an element of crawling within the game, something which is to keep of note (it is on a padded surface and not for too long)
Game Play:
A linear game that contains a variety of puzzles, maths, word, logic, physical, but generally leaning towards observation and code-breaking.
All the puzzles were perfect in their logic so much so it just seemed that padlocks were tumbling open giving a great sense of progression and achievement.
Enthusiasts are likely to spot all the puzzles and link things together as it is a fairly formulaic room, but this is a GOOD thing as the logic in the puzzles lead to an excellent flow, with all the parts of the puzzles coming together with perfect timing to create fun ah-ha moments and lots of satisfying padlock popping!
A very good game. Perfect for newbies (take a 4 or 5) and a lot of fun for enthusiasts!
