Escape Asylum – Cirque Du Slay.
Location: Leicester
Game Date 30/11/2017.
Team: Amy, Ian & Simon
Theme:
“MoMo’s Circus has come to town, what could be more exciting? Everyone’s favourite clown is back!
The lights, the colours, the sound of people having fun…. until you see the blood.
You and your friends can either run, or try to be heroes. The choice is yours.
Who will be his next victim?”
Theming was fairly standard in this room and contained all the tropes you would encounter in a circus, cages, hook a duck, clowns etc etc. The room was quite dark so it was hard to appreciate the detail in the room, and so it felt that the room was lacking some finishing touches. The atmosphere was creepy, and there was some great interaction with the clown in the latter parts of the game. The room was suitably big enough for 4-5 people. There are elements of crawling and tight spaces which are apparent from start of the game.
Game Play:
A linear game that consisted of a good mix of puzzles, skill, physical, logic, word, riddles and searching.
Puzzles were fair in their logic, and all bar one had good solid answers.
There was one puzzle which we got right first time, yet colour discrepancies (a colour puzzle in a dimly lit room is never a joy to do!) left us rethinking our answer and as a little confusing!
The room was fun, with the physical challenges being the stand out of the room, even if they were rather evil at times.
The flow was decent and we kept moving forward at most times, there were a couple of time we slowed but this was down to a failed search and the complications with the colour puzzle.
The nature of a couple of the puzzles left only 1 person to accomplish the task, whilst the others looked on, this didn’t effect our group of 3 too much but could become problematic for larger groups
A decent room that brushes with scares, and would be enjoyable as an introduction to jumpier people who want to try a scarier themed room as there are a couple of good scares but nothing heart stopping!
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a loudspeaker in the room, at the request of the player, and I really didn’t like that upon requesting for a hint we were asked to do star jumps! This didn’t sit right with me, as I feel that a hint should be given to push you along in the room with no negative connotations, and it did make us think again before asking for another hint (in fact… I don’t think we did after asking for the first!) – it was disheartening.
Game Host:
Dan was our game host and was friendly and made us feel very welcome. He ran our game very well and did give us nudges in the right direction at times.
Did we escape?
Yes! In 49 minutes!
