The Panic Room – Wizard of Oz

The Panic Room – Wizard of Oz
Location: Gravesend
Game Date – 21/08/2018.
Team: Amy & Ian

Wizardofoz-optimised

Theme:
“Are you ready to go on the adventure of a lifetime? It’s time to visit the incredible land of OZ.
Follow the yellow brick road and make your way into the beautiful Emerald City!

You’ll be sure to make some friends along the way too, so you’ll need to work together to fix your hot air balloon in time. You’ll just need a little Courage, Heart and Brains!”

Wizard of Oz looked GORGEOUS from the Hot Air Balloon, to the corn fields, into the emerald city and beyond the level of detail and work that went into the decor was astounding. Brilliantly green and lavish, the decoration is perfect for Oz, and the addition of character lead story telling adds so much to the game.
This is a room where you can feel the love, passion and hours of hard work that the Panic Room team have put into it. It’s just beautiful, elegant and whimsical, which gives a magical, immersive and story led adventure!
The space is lit well, for the most part with some areas a little darker than others. The room is large enough that you wont be treading on each other’s toes if you play in an 8, but some areas might be a bit squeezy.

Game Play:
A game that was mostly linear, with some nice open moments and plenty of puzzles,  observation, searching, word, logic, physical.
All the puzzles were excellent in their logic and none were to complicated as Wizard of Oz is designed for a broader age range (from 6+) – the Panic Room have excelled in designing a room that not only appeals to adults, but will let kids have their turn in the spotlight too. There are several moments in the game where kids will really enjoy themselves!
The flow was excellent, with us only tripping up over our own mistakes, and signposting was well in theme and clear, but not patronising.
Add into this a great deal of story-telling, charm and magic and Wizard of Oz is a perfect family friendly escape that will get even the youngest members of your family hooked on escaping!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen

Game Host:
Mae was our game host, and it’s wonderful to see her really have come out of her shell and to see her adorable personality even more since she hosted us for resurgency back in April! Mae was awesome, friendly, delivered our story & brief brilliantly and sent hints with precision.

Did we escape?
Yes, in 53 Minutes

  1. I follow your blog and I am a fellow escape room addict so I love reading about new rooms. One point to note, if I may? WHERE ARE YOU? You don’t often write the location of the escape room you are blogging about. You assume people know. I haven’t read your entire back catalogue and even if I had, I don’t know you well enough to remember! Please write the location of the escape room in the headlines (along with the date and team members playing) so I don’t have to google it and try and work it out. X

    1. Hiya,
following on from your comment, and another, we will be adding locations to all of our posts in the future (and will edit previous ones, but this may take some time as there are nearly 300 reviews to edit!)
