Theme:
“It’s Chicago, 1893 and you’ve mysteriously received tickets to stay at the infamous Dr H. H. Holmes’ World Fair Hotel. There’s just one problem, he’s America’s first serial killer.
Based on a true story in 1890’s Chicago your stay at the charmingly nicknamed ‘Murder Hotel’ isn’t all it seems.
Who booked you in to the World Fair Hotel? Why do people who check in rarely check out? And more importantly, who is H.H. Holmes and what is he hiding?”
Theme was very good, an immersive set that threw you into the world of HH Holmes and the labarynthine hotel he created. The game space just kept on going and going with each new space giving more of a glimpse into Holmes’ twisted mind.
Decoration was well presented and finished, with enough decor to keep theme up but nothing distracting.
The space was small at first but soon opened up to a good size, easily accomodating the max team size.
There are some elements of crawling and climbing in this room, so make sure you wear sensible footwear and clothes.
The lighting was good throughout, with the room being lit well enough to see but not too bright, creating a creepy atmopshere.
Game Play:
A linear game that focused on searching, with a couple of nice logic, physical and team work puzzles thrown in. The puzzles themselves fitted the theme and even the searching was right for the era of the room! All the puzzles were logical and had nice ah-ha moments.
The flow was good, and even as a search heavy room we never felt there were any unfair or deliberatly tricky searches to be had, all that was needed to keep ticking along was a keen observational eye!
A lovely room that deliveres on story, character and immersion – the level of detail that Kym and Ross had researched into HH Holmes is astounding and this really resonated in the room itself. They created a tense, creey atmosphere, each door opening with trepidation, never knowing if you’re going to bump into the man himself!
This, coupled with nice puzzles and logical searching (yes!) leads to a fun game that can be enjoyed by any level of player
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a Walkie Talkie
