Lakes Escapes – Dr Frankenscraft’s Monster
Game Date: 02/09/2018
Team: Amy & Ian
“In a European village, a young scientist, Dr Ivan Frankenscraft and his Lab assistants, are piecing together a human body, the parts of which have been collected from various sources. Frankenscraft desires to create human life through experimentation and electricity which he has perfected.
Dr Winston will be arriving in the next hour with a group of angry villagers to destroy anyone and everything in his way. Your only hope is to bring the Monster to life so he can protect you from the lynch mob.”
A wonderfully decorated room, that has the monster as a center-set piece and one that factors into the game in a big way. A highly immersive room that puts you right into Dr Frankenscraft’s castle. It’s amazing to think that this is a family run business as the attention to detail and finish on the room is excellent.
The story and world is continued throughout the game and there is so much to look at and investigate without being distracting.
The room is well lit, whilst not the biggest space a team of 6 will be ok provided they don’t mind being a little cosy!
An open game with plenty of puzzles. Word, logic, observation, skill, physical, math. There was a puzzle for everyone in this room to suit all skill sets.
The puzzles were all logical, and on theme, with wonderful ah-ha moments. One puzzle in particular was an absoloute corker, something we’ve not seen before and it was a lot of FUN, interactive and a wow moment!
The flow of the game was excellent, slick and well honed. It’s crystal clear that Lakes Escapes have took what they’ve learned with their previous games (Baker Street and Quest for the throne – which were bought in) and improved on it, and created a fantastic game that works really well.
Signposting was also excellent, with no logic leaps or ambiguity, the signposting lead us from puzzle to puzzle and made the game almost play itself (which is always great… it makes you feel safe in the knowledge that puzzles aren’t going to deliberatly trip you up or derail you whilst playing the game!)
A lovely, charming game that has a great amount of discovery, fun and theatrical moments.
