High-Street-Breakout-Manchester---Captured-Room-Graphic-5-600x600

Theme:
“It’s time to play a game. Some people are so ungrateful to be alive. If you survive this room you won’t be. One minute you are leading a normal life, going about your daily business, the next minute you have been captured. You wake up in an abandoned basement with no idea how you got there. A video begins to play and the clock starts to count down. You have 60 minutes to escape, or your life will end…”

Captured looked cool, and despite the warnings on the website, this room wasn’t as scary as made out. The room was well lit, if not a little small (I’m glad that Breakout cap at 5 people in this room!) I wouldn’t have liked to have been in here with more than 4 players.
That aside the room looked great, with manic writing on the wall that gave way to a more sinister torture chamber. Simple, but effective!
The room was finished well, and made very clever use of its previous incarnation as a bar!

Game Play:
A Liner game that had plenty of variation in puzzle types, observation, word, math, physical, colour, searching, logic, teamwork, descriptive. All bases were touched with this room, which made for an interesting game.
The puzzles were all excellent in their logic, with a sense of trust being found very early in the game that allowed us to really steam through the puzzles and have faith in the stability of the room.
All the puzzles had lovely ah-ha moments, and they were all perfectly solvable on their own, yet they gave a great sense of discovery and movement throughout the room.
The flow was excellent, there were no deliberate sticking points or slow downs and you can tell this is a game that has been tweaked and honed to give the most seamless experience possible.
Signposting was good, just enough to guide but not so much as to make the game too easy or too confusing.
All in all a really enjoyable game that certainly seemed to play to our strengths, but I think there is so much puzzle variety that in each team there will be something for everyone.
