Top Escape Rooms – Sea Quest
Location: Worcester
Game Date: 27/08/2020
Duration: 60 minutes
Theme:
“Years ago, four legendary pirate captains hid their greatest treasures in a set of wooden chests, protecting it with (mind-twisting puzzles and) the power of four magic talismans. Can you and your friends rise to the challenge, solve those puzzles and become the richest adventurers alive? Good luck!”
Considering that Sea Quest, at its roots is a portable game, Top Escapes could have easily slapped the game in a bare room and chucked up some cheap decorations. This was NOT the case, the room was decorated beautifully, yet simpley to create the feeling of being on a ship, with gorgeous wood pannelled walls and suitable furniture. Enough to set the scene but not to distract your attention from the 4 huge crates in the centre of the room.
The room was large, and could easily fit the max of 6 players. Lighting was dim and in theme lanterns were provided, however I think taking 5 minutes to let your eyes adjust is the best thing to do, as soon as I stopped using the lantern I started seeing a lot more!
Game Play:
An open game with a vast array of puzzles, word, logic, observation, searching, teamwork, physical, codebreaking. A good mix.
The puzzles were all on theme, and whilst a fair few were standard escape room fayre, they were dressed up nicely to fit the pirate theme of the game.
Puzzles were all enjoyable to solve and had lovely ah-ha moments which pleased us constantly throughout the room.
The logic behind the puzzles was solid, with no ambiguity in solving them, leading to nice satisfying solves.
Flow was good, with there being no slow downs due to the game.
Signposting was in theme, albeit a little subtle at time we were left to make some connections ourselves.
A good game, that had plenty of content and satisfying puzzles that are acheivable at all levels of experience.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen.
Game Host:
Adam and Vicki were our game hosts, and they were so very welcoming. Giving us a great brief and perfectly timed clues. Their passion and enthusiasm for creating the very best games shines through and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the future!
Covid19 Safety:
We felt very safe at Top Escape Rooms, masks were worn at all times, both inside and outside the rooms, and social distancing was adhered to. The room was very clean.
