Top Escape Rooms – The Dentist
Location: Worcester
Game Date: 27/08/2020
Team: Amy & Ian
Duration: 60 minutes
Theme:
“It is always hard starting with a new Dentist but it is time to be brave and book that appointment.
But all is not as it seems, the waiting room is empty, where is the Receptionist ??
Where has your friend Neville gone?
Why is the door locked?
What is that noise?
Only you can find your way out
Open Wide
The Doctor will see you now……”
The Dentist looked spot on, the moment we walked into the room we were transported into a Dentist’s waiting room, clinical, sterile and a little tense. Everything was in place, from posters on the wall to THAT kid’s toy… with the wires and the blocks, that is in EVERY waiting room across the country! Following into the dentist’s room itself decor was good, and a little bit spooky, which helped contiue the story and will put most people on edge!
The decor was finished to a high standard, and all of the props were sourced to be authentic which just added to the immersion in the room.
There were no red-herrings within the room and it was clear what was to be used in game and what was decoration.
The room was large enough for 6 players, and lighting was good. Where lighting was dim there was a torch provided.
Game Play:
An open game which gradually narrowed down to become more linear. Puzzles were of a good range. Word, observation, light physical, searching, math & logic.
All the puzzles were perfectly in theme, and they all came from the setting, using the realistic props to great effect and this led to the puzzles being woven into the fabric of the room.
The puzzles were excellent in their logic, with absolutley no ambiguity but with clever twists and turns which encouraged critical thinking.
Ah-ha moments came thick and fast, and all the puzzles were a delight to solve.
Flow was wonderful, slick and there were no sticky moments or slow downs.
Signposting was fantastic, and in theme with the game, subtly directing us through the game and using the theme to benefit the player.
The Dentist is an ideal “first timers” room, not because it is simple (far from it) but because it does a fantastic job of combining logical puzzles, signposting and flow to give a game that would successfully “teach a team” how to play an escape room.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen.
Game Host:
Adam and Vicki were our game hosts, and they were so very welcoming. Giving us a great brief and perfectly timed clues. Their passion and enthusiasm for creating the very best games shines through and I can’t wait to see what they come up with in the future!
Covid19 Safety:
We felt very safe at Top Escape Rooms, masks were worn at all times, both inside and outside the rooms, and social distancing was adhered to. The room was very clean.
Did we escape?
Yes, in about 35 minutes
