Clue HQ Warrington -The Betrayal Of Cluetankhamun.
Location: Warrington
Play Date 03/01/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian
Theme:
“Just over a month ago the long lost tomb of Cluetankhamun was unearthed for the first time in over 5 millennia. A team of explorers were sent in to recover the Cluetan Crystal, a jewel believed to possess the power of the Nile. It has been several days since last contact with the exploring party so it’s time to send a new expedition down into the tomb to retrieve the crystal. But watch your step – Who knows what happened to the last exploring party.”
Clue HQ’s story telling is great, each room has an introductory video which really sets the scene and gets you in the mood to play, and Clutankhamun is no different! The theming is very good, but I feel with Clue HQ is a “puzzle room with a theme of….” rather than a 100% immersive experience, this doesn’t detract from the fun in any way, it just makes you very, aware that you’re in a room full of puzzles!
In saying that the decoration is lovely and finished to a high standard, with Egyptian artefacts and hieroglyphs adorning the walls. There was a spectacular reveal moment too which left both Ian and I wowed! So simple but very effective! The lighting is a key element with Clue HQ and this changes during different moments in the game, which is a great addition.
Game Play:
Cluetankhamun has a great flow and is very linear, which plays to our strengths. Logical puzzles and a LOT of them in all different styles NO math! Which is great! There was physical, mental, logic and riddles! There is a nice twist that leaves you to make a hard decision during the game play, there is plenty to do for an hour in here, whilst the majority of the puzzles are standard and if you’re an enthusiast you’ll have probably seen a lot of these before, but they’re implement in slightly different ways which will leave to to re-think!
There are 2 standout puzzled that I really enjoyed, both using big props to get their answers.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen which was themed appropriately.
Game Host:
Mark was our game host, and also the manager at Clue HQ he was polite and friendly and ran our game really well, we didn’t have that many clues, but when we did they were excellently timed. Mark read our game very well, delivering hints that nudged us in the right direction but were not obvious
Did we escape?
Yes, with 8 minutes remaining!
