Breakout Chester – Cursed Carnival.
Location: Chester
Game Date 07/03/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian
Theme:
“You and your friends have won a prize at the local carnival, but it’s a prize with a difference. Since you’ve taken it home, you have been tormented by strange dreams and a haunting voice that tells you that you must return your prize within 7 days. You return to the carnival on the 7th day and enter the old repair shed where you must solve the mystery with only an hour left before the clock strikes midnight. Can you break the curse in 60 minutes or will your nightmares come true…”
We were given torches to start off our journey to the Curse Carnival… this sorta fills me with dread now as dark rooms are becoming a bit of a bug bear with me… Cursed Carnival was not too bad, the torches were only needed for the first part of the game, and only really to see what numbers we were putting in to the locks.
The theming was great, whilst still obviously an escape room (so not 100% immersive) everything in the room was bang on theme, and it had a fun, slightly creepy feel to it. The decoration was immaculate, and very well presented it represented the different areas of an abandoned carnival very well! A very fun and frivolous room, with a GREAT soundtrack which is bound to get everyone “do do doodle-ing” along! Such a fun fun room!
Game Play:
A fairly linear game, with PLENTY of padlocks and areas to explore. The puzzles are a decent mix of word, observation, searching and logic. There was great flow to the puzzles, and each had a good Ah-Ha moment when solving.
Experience prevailed in this room as we spotted puzzles before we had all the necessary components to complete them.
There were a couple of puzzles that are in the Liverpool version of this room, this is something to be mindful of when booking if you have already played Liverpool’s (It’s more likely you’ll have a quick escape time if you have played Liverpool’s before Chester’s or Vice-Versa) It is not, however an identical game so it CAN be enjoyed on its own merits.
It’s a very fun game, with a great flow and lots of fun puzzles and props!
A little on the easy side for experienced teams (so keep the numbers down!) But a BRILLIANT room for first timers or inexperienced teams. You can’t fail to have fun in this room!
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen in the room.
Game Host:
Paul was our game host and was so incredibly enthusiastic, fun and friendly! He ran our game with precision, delivering our clues just at the right time (although we did only have 2 clues!) A fab game host! We could have chatted for ages afterwards!
Did we escape?
Yes in 31:30! What a time again!!
