Breakout Liverpool – The Detective Office.
Location: Liverpool
Game Date 15/02/2018.
Team: Amy, Ian & Michael
Thursday saw a very impromptu and last minute escape plan form when Michael (our occasional local third team member) messaged me asking if I fancied escaping that day… YES of course was the answer, The Detective Office was the ONLY game in Liverpool I hadn’t played and luckily there was a spot free that night, so plans were made, sushi was eaten and we headed over to Breakout.
Breakout had a massive expansion since we last played there (Sabotage – which was admittedly nearly a year ago) and The Detective office was located through a door that I had ALWAYS wondered what was behind it… well now we know. SPACE for a stack of new rooms!
Theme:
“In this tale, a young detective has sadly been murdered in his office and you are being framed as his killer. You are on the run and have gained access to his office, the crime scene, for one hour. Can you save yourself by finding out who killed him, why someone killed him and how they killed him?”
Theming was good, a typical office with simple decor, desks, and a big comfy couch! Immersion was OK, there was a good soundtrack that added atmosphere to the room. The space was large enough for a group of 5. The lighting in some parts was a bit dim, but this was due to theming, and there was plenty of light in the main room.
Game Play:
A fairly linear game that focused mostly on observation, with some nice logic puzzles thrown in. A 3 star room for breakout so one of their easier rooms, with some classic breakout style puzzles.
The puzzles were all logical, and most had nice ah-ha moments. Experienced teams will find the answers come easy, yet I can imagine that taking on this room for a first time group could be overwhelming as there are a lot of connections to be made!
The flow was good, pieces came together nicely and the game almost played itself in places.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen
Game Host:
Sophie was our game host, and was friendly (and she recognised us from when we played The Heist!)
She ran our game well delivering hints at some tricky times.
She set the scene well, giving us an engaging backstory to the room!
Did we escape?
Yes, in 48 minutes!
