Theme:
“Trapped… in a body broken by war.

Trapped… in a mind of emotional turmoil, brought on by the death of his brother.

Now, Trapped… in a web of secrets and horrors he can no longer controL……

…After returning from the battlefield,  Dr Papét found himself withdrawing from his life in London and moved to Matlock, to find some ‘peace’ and to focus on his work.

However, a chance meeting one evening with a Mr A.H. Tide, turned his life inside out, leading him down a path of secrets and horrors, he thought he had escaped.

Things are unravelling. the noises in the night, the strange comings and goings and the mysterious disappearances are starting to grab the local’s attention, rumours are spreading, Dr Papét was hiding something.

Do you have the courage and intellect to enter his office and discover his secrets, then escape with them, before his return. or will you too, become ‘Trapped’ in Dr Papéts weB… Forever.”

A detailed backstory that was supported by a slick set, the room itself was decorated very well, with just enough detail to create good immersion, and a very creepy atmosphere! Each area of the game contrasted to the one before (and after) it, giving a good sense of adventure throughout. The props were all genuine and tactile, and really helped set up and create a realistic environment to play in.
The room was large enough, although the space narrowed down at the end of the game to create a pressure filled finale!
Lighting was a little dim in parts, but this was for atmospheric effect and didn’t impact on game play at all, coupled with a few scares this really did a good job in its theming!

Game Play:
A linear game that had a fair few puzzles, word, observation, math, searching, code breaking. The puzzles themselves were good, on theme & enjoyable, there were a couple of logic leaps that we didn’t seem to spot (although I’m sure that a more observant team would have no problem) So the ah-ha moments were a bit stilted mainly towards the end of the game, I feel this was a stumbling block in our perception of the game rather than the game itself (note… EAT before doing escape rooms in future!)
In the first half of the game, the flow was very good, and there was one puzzle that was very elegant in its design, logical, solvable and with an excellent ah-ha moment!
Overall the flow was good, signposting was very, very subtle and in some cases you had to work hard to find, and use it.
Overall an enjoyable game, that will task enthusiasts to look at things a bit more carefully and will test newbies to their limits!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a walkie talkie

Game Host:
Tina was our game host, she was friendly and gave us a good brief and backstory which set the scene nicely! Tina delivered clues well, although to our downfall we didn’t realise we had to ask for clues, completely our undoing as if we have to ask, we always forget!
Tina did help us out when we needed it though, and her hints were clear and concise

Did we escape?
Well…. we went 3 minutes over time!
