Stuck in the Riddle – Cape Escape
Location: Huddersfield
Game Date: 28/05/2021
Team: Amy & Ian
Duration: 60 Minutes
Theme:
“It’s not every day you break into a super hero’s flat, but saving the world is a bit of a priority for us, and we think your team have just the right stuff to complete the task!”
Cape Escape looked good, a bit unusual in its decor, but that suited the wacky style of this game, which lovingly recreates the “superhero” tropes and almost places you into a jovial, comic book setting. As the game progressed, the sets got a bit darker in tone, yet still kept the tongue in cheek feeling. A tricky line to walk, but Cape Escape did it well.
The decoration was good. There was a fair amount of props in this room that could distract a little bit, but it was quickly sorted out and we realised what was important and what was just room dressing. As the game progressed this got less of an issue.
The space is large enough when into the game, but is a bit of a squeeze at the very beginning. Lighting is good throughout, atmospheric and the room has great immersion.
Game Play:
A fairly open room that had a good amount of puzzles, it was certainly a busy game. Word, Logic, Physical, Searching, Observation and a really silly stand alone puzzle that was ridiculous, but SO much fun!!
Puzzles were mainly in theme, and felt like they were intrinsic to the story and game. Logic was good, with nice ah-ha moments coming through and no ambiguity in the puzzles.
There was a lot of fun in this room and its light-hearted nature trickles down into its puzzles, which are all a joy to solve and participate in
Flow was good, not the fastest paced game but one that trots along quite nicely at its own speed.
Signposting was decent, in place where needed, but players were left to connect the dots in some places.
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a telephone, Lots of fun!
Game Host:
Ash was our gamehost again, ans just like “Cabin” she was excellent, attentive and delivered clues with precision. Perfect hosting.
Covid19 Safety:
Masks were worn in the briefing areas, but we were allowed to remove in the room. Hand Sanitizer was readily available
Did we escape?
Yes, in around 50 minutes.
