Lakes Escapes – Modern Detective
Location: Workington
Game Date: 30/06/2021
Team: Amy & Ian
Duration: 60 Minutes
Theme:
A woman by the name of Sarah Markham has been murdered in her apartment. The 31 year old was found dead in her home in the early hours of this morning. The police have arrested 6 suspects for this murder but as of right now we are unable to determine which one committed the crime.
You and your fellow detectives have been given the task of solving this murder with the incentive of a promotion if you are successful. The suspects have been detained for some time now and without any firm leads they will have to be released before the hour is up.
You must search the crime scene and use the evidence you find to decipher the clues the killer left and solve the case.
The halt in the investigation has the public worried that the killer will strike again. Fear is sweeping across London and everyone is asking the same question: Who killed Sarah?
Can you solve the case?
Modern detective looked great, and very… well… modern! This was a very well decorated space, that was clean, well furnished with a great attention to detail. The décor was fitting with the theme, and the immersion was great, the space felt lived in and real. It was a lovely place to spend an hour in.
The room isn’t huge, but there is enough space and the lighting is excellent.
Game Play:
A fairly linear game, which played beautifully with a huge assortment of puzzles… Word, logic, observation, searching, codebreaking, deduction… the opportunity for every player in a team to have their star moment was abundant.
Puzzles were all intrinsically linked to the story and the room and felt well places with the world, nothing was out of place, and whilst there was loads to look at, there was never a problem with anything being misconstrued as a red herring a clear signal of excellence in room design.
Puzzles were clear in their logic, and had lovely ah-ha moments, one really excellent on that Ian clicked onto and I could practically feel the joy from him at that ah-ha moment! With enjoyable puzzles and a clear trajectory this room is undeniably playable.
Signposting was excellent, with more than enough subtle nudges to keep you moving in the right direction to achieve the goal of the room.
Flow was wonderful, any sticky moments were completely down to our failings, as the game was continually trying to push us forward.
A smashing room, which whilst it had plenty to do, I would wholeheartedly recommend as a first room as it ticks all the boxes!
Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen
Game Host:
John and Carol were our game hosts, and they were just wonderful, so chatty, personable and ran the game with absolute perfection. You can’t get better hosts.
Covid19 Safety:
Lakes Escapes takes covid safety very seriously, masks were worn at all times, and there was copious hand santizer stations around and in the rooms themselves. They also have a fogger machine that cleans the rooms, and extra time is taken to clean spaces between each group.
Did we escape?
Yes, in around 55 minutes, a close call!
