Panic Rooms – Carnevil
Game Date: 06/09/2021
Team: Amy & Ian
Duration: 60 Minutes
“Let me tell you the tale of the Grimaldi Brothers, one kind and one kinda evil. Percevil made a deal with the devil for the Carnival to run forever but all deals come at a cost…that cost was his brother.
More than 100 years later the Carnival continues on, bright lights hiding a dark past. The stench of popcorn and despair is the perfect combination for a fantastic time!
One of the acts Madame Mystica has reached out to you to try and free the carnival and its acts. Can you set them free and escape the haunted carnival? Or will you become one of the attractions forever…”
WOW, just…. WOW. I am a sucker for good Carnival themes and Panic Rooms have hit the nail on the head, mixing creepy with carnival to create a full on circus. A HUGE space, decorated from top to bottom, with not an inch left undecorated, and to and incredibly high standard, from the circus’s entry way, to the fortune teller’s caravan and all the game stalls, this was perfection. Add into the mix moody lighting, a booming soundtrack and this really is a recipe for a fully immersive experience that will impress.
The space is more than big enough for the maximum team size, lighting where atmospheric was never dark enough that it caused any problems.
An open game that has a great mix of physical games, logic, observation, teamwork, skill, word and searching.
Starting off innocuously enough, the game teases, showing you the carnival and skill games you’re going to have to complete to move through the game, and these were all perfectly in theme, what you would expect from a carnival but done incredibly well, achievable and TONNES of fun!
The game, in the latter stages takes a more “escape room” feel, even so, the puzzles were perfectly in theme, intrinsic and exciting.
The logic through the whole game was exemplary, with clear concise solves and wonderful ah-ha moments, beautifully woven into the room, and story.
The signposting was excellent, and the sense of discovery throughout the game was second to none, there was so much to look at, explore and have fun with
Flow was great, with the game moving steadily along, at a pace that was smooth but not crazy fast paced. There was plenty of moments to explore and engage with the room.
Overall, Carnevil is just fun, fun, fun… you can’t fail to have a good time in this game.
Clues were delivered via voice over.
James was our host again, but this time playing a rather sinister, maniacal clown! He delivered a great brief and story, and excellent hints and jumps throughout the game.
