Ultimate Escape – CSI

Ultimate Escape – CSI. Game Date 14/08/2016. Team: Amy & Ian

We were lucky to be invited to play CSI the day before opening, to be the first “punters” to play the game! Julian has a rich history or game making and I feel this is a passion project for him. The amount of work gone into this game is fabulous and he has every right to be very proud!

Theme:
“DCI Bodgit and his overworked sidekick Sergeant Leggit, who prior to joining the police force had a building firm together called Bodgit and Leggit, are faced with a particularly puzzling murder case”

CSI adds a new twist on the tried and tested Escape Room formula, whilst it is a classic ER, it also adds in an element of roleplay, with each player taking on different roles such as the forensic team, and pathologist. Ian and I decided to combine all the roles into one and solve the murder mystery together!

The setting of the murder takes place in a garden, and this is fully realised in the room! Astroturf and trellis make the setting realistic, along with all the other things you come to expect at a murder scene, very well decorated.

Game Play:
This was like playing a real life board game, there weren’t a lot of locks to open, but at each lock you knew exactly what you needed to progress and were rewarded with it once you cracked the code. A beautifully linear game, with solving the murder being the aim of the game rather than “just escaping” There was not much searching in this room too (which suited us perfectly!)

Clue System:
Clues were given when asked, the GH is right outside the door at all times and gave us some great hints in the right direction. There is no screen in Ultimate Escape and time comes from a stopwatch in the room.

Game Host:
Julian was warm, welcoming, chatty and obviously has a love for all things “gamey” and murder mysteries, this really shines through!! He wasted no time getting hints to us and explaining clearly

Did we escape?
Yes! We have solved the murder with 4 minutes left!
