Our last game in August saw us returning to Escape Centre Blackpool, for their 2nd (for the moment) game… Secret of the Tomb! A totally different take on a Tomb from any other game we’ve played, and another straight from TRAP in Hungary (The home of Escape Games) Although, John did say that they had to take out a puzzle containing co-signs and tangents as this is considered basic maths in Hungary (Thank GOD he didn’t keep that in, we’d have been screwed!) Brilliant of Escape Centre to tailor their games to their audience 🙂

Theme:
“Brent Chadwick had a rough childhood. He grew up in the shadow of his mother, Lucille, who was the founder of the “Church of the Untemptables” (COTU). The COTU was a Christian-fundamentalist church in the eighties that preached: “Resist all temptations, but if you aren’t able to resist, you still have the chance of salvation if you punish yourselves equal to the sin you have committed.” So no wonder Brent went crazy and, after his mother died, moved to a hidden room – the very room you are about to enter. This strange place is full of traps. The only way to escape is to find the urn of Lucille’s ashes. If you fail and are still here after an hour, Brent will arrive home and I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes when he does.”

The story is great and does carry through to the room, where on first impressions this is the room of a madman! Upon further exploration this is most definitely the case! The decor was finished very well, and it’s slick,  with just enough to not distract from the puzzles (which are the star of this room) and a very “psycho” prop is placed perfectly to be a surprise!

Game Play:
This game was perfectly linear which I LOVE… the puzzles were all very clever, and each one was so different from the other which kept the interest throughout the whole hour, and gave us both chance to solve individual puzzles that played to our strengths! There was also no ambiguity as to where to input a code when you’d solved the puzzle, obviously a well tried and tested game, it was a JOY to play!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered through a screen (of which we needed NONE!)

Game Host:
John was our host, we had met him briefly the week before, a genuinely friendly  guy who clearly has a passion for his games! He ran our game really well, and it was one of times I’ve asked for a clue and been denied because he KNEW we would get it on our own, great hosting skills!

Did we escape?
Yes, in 58 minutes!
