Escape Kent – Kidnapped

Escape Kent – Kidnapped
Location: Canterbury
Game Date 23/08/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian

“After years of hard saving you have finally made your dream come true, to be able to travel throughout the USA, but little do you know where this trip will take you. Midway through your travels you find yourself in the grasps of one of Texas’s most renowned serial killers and cannibal, ‘The Butcher’. No one knows who he is, only that he leaves little left of his victims after he has satisfied his appetite for human meat. You find yourself locked in a dark, dank basement with no recollection of what’s happened, all you know is that you need to escape alive, or risk succumbing to the disturbing appetite of the man who had kidnapped you, The Butcher.”

The theming was suitably dilapidated and grimy, creating a good sense of immersion. The atmosphere was creepy, but not scary or intimidating. Escape Kent have struck a good balance of creepy vs theming.
There is a lot of attention to detail and stuff to look at in this room, be careful this doesn’t create unintentional red herrings when you play!
The room was large and could easily accommodate the maximum group size of 8.

Game Play:
The game was open, with lots to be getting on with at the same time, a good game with lots of different puzzle types, physical, maths, logic, observation. Leaning a little bit towards observation.
The puzzles were all perfectly solvable with no clues (we took 1 tiny sound hint to nudge us in the right direction, it was very subtle and well done)
All the puzzles had great ah-ha moments, and were suitably on theme for the game.
The flow was good, once we got going…
This room lacked a specific “jump off” point to start the game.. I could see this being a problem for bigger groups as some quite keen observation was needed to get going and it could easily be missed! Once we got going the room flowed very well, and we found no other snags or obstacles within the flow of the game.
A good room for players from all ends of the spectrum, enthusiasts will certainly enjoy the unique ending!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a screen, and through audio cues.

Game Host:
Chris was our Game Host and also the Owner of Escape Kent, his passion for escape rooms is obvious, and he ran our game well and was friendly & hospitable.

Did we escape?
