Project Breakout – Project Z

Project Breakout – Project Z.
Location: Brighouse
Game Date 24/09/2017.
Team: Amy & Ian

project-z-opening-1

Theme:
“You are in the midst of a Zombie Apocalypse. By chance you’ve found yourself locked in an underground bunker owned by a secret Government organisation, but the scientist in charge of the keys ventured outside some time ago to assess the situation and never returned.

The hordes of Zombies have begun to descend on the room, and your food and water supplies are exhausted. Suddenly your 2 way radio crackles into life. A rescue chopper has discovered your whereabouts and is on its way to rescue you, but they will only have one attempt to land before the Zombies overwhelm them.

Estimated time of arrival is in 60 minutes. Can you find a way out of the room before the chopper is forced to leave, or worse, find yourself overcome by the undead army waiting outside?”

This room is very well themed and again immersive. With a little twist at the beginning of the game which adds very well to the immersion. A great soundtrack of moaning zombies and the occasional scratching on the outside of the bunker just adds to the pressure and immersion.
The decor in the room is solidly built, and simple as one would expect from an emergency bunker, simple not being a criticism in this case!
There is plenty to look at and nothing out of place, again there are no red herrings in the room.
The room is large, and well lit and will easily accommodate the max group size with ease.

Game Play:
A game that had different paths, but came together for some moments of linearity, a very busy game with plenty to do.
The aim is (unlike The Anitdote) to escape the bunker and this is done whilst solving some perfectly on theme puzzles.
The puzzles range from observation, physical, codebreaking, logic, math, word & a little searching… ALL bases are covered and every puzzle is unique and different.
The final puzzle is a wonderful combination of several elements which make perfect sense and lead to a brilliant Ah-Ha moment to escape!
The puzzles are all so logical, and each has a great ah-ha moment which combined with the pacing and number of puzzles leaves you excited at every solution within the game.
The flow was sublime, with every lock opened leading on to the next element with ease, an incredibly enjoyable game, that will please enthusiasts a lot in it’s excellent design, unique puzzles and tense atmosphere.
Newbies may want to take a good number in here, as there is a lot to work through and solve!
What more can I say, it’s not very often that a game ticks all the boxes and Project Z did just that, with all the elements combined making a very, very, very good game!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via an intercom in the room

Game Host:
Benn again was our game host and ran the whole game in character (as he did in The Antidote) – he delivered clues with precision timing when we needed them (mainly for search failings….) brilliant game hosting

Did we escape?
Yes, in 42 minutes!
