Cryptic – The Upside Down

Theme:
“A  mysterious gateway has opened up in the town. The government have tried to keep the phenomenon under wraps, but something is trying to break through. You are tasked with a top secret mission to enter the gateway and close the Upside Down. However, you must remain vigilant. Whatever is trying to break through will be lurking in the Upside Down with you. Can you save the town in time?”

A fairly simply decorated game, which captured the Byers’ living room and had a few nice nods to Stranger Things. Whilst not the biggest space, it never felt cramped and the game used the space well. Lighting was never an issue.

Game Play:
A linear game that consisted of logic, observation and deduction. The puzzles were mainly on theme and had sound logic for the most part, there were a couple of moments where ambiguiety came into play, but when cleared up there was logic behind the puzzle, although it wasn’t our first destination, causing us to have to stop and re-evaluate our answers.
The signposting was subtle and in some places we missed it completely. Flow was good however and the game continually drove forward at a steady pace.

Clues were delivered via walkie talkie

Game Host:
Michael was our game host and did a great job, his passion and enthusiasm shine through. Clues were delivered with good timing.
