Puzzle Post – The Dupe
When the creators over at Puzzle post contacted us about reviewing their second puzzle card, we jumped at the chance, we absoloutely loved “The Missed Flight” and were excited to see what they had come up with next.
Upon opening the package that arrived, we were impressed, the production qualities were excellent again and the handcrafted vibe was still strong.
The printing and attention to detail in Puzzle Posts products are what sets them apart, you can tell that every detail has been thought through and nothing is just “there” it all fits perfectly well and delivers a great story
“Alvar Korhonen is a reputable Finnish Art Dealer whose been negotiating art deals at the Helsinki Art Fest for years. Only this year he’s unwittingly brokered a deal that isn’t all that it seems and is putting his life and that of his children at risk…
He was supposed to deliver your message but has had to leave the city and go into hiding. He was scared the message would be intercepted by those after him, and so has stashed it in our online vault and put 7 puzzles together from his last few days in Helsinki.”
The 7 puzzles come together to capture snippets of what happend to Alvar, and all wraps up neatly in the end. Whilst puzzle post’s aim is not complete immersion, they do create a world that feels cohesive and detailed.
The game itself is completly open, you can solve the puzzles in any order that you wish. Experienced escapers will not find the puzzles brain busting, but there is still a fair bit of work to be done to complete the mission!
The most interesting thing about Puzzle Post is that, if you buy it for a friend, you can leave a personlised message for them at the end of their game. This is perfect for surprises and birthdays/christmas! Or even just to send someone you miss during lockdown a lovely message!
The puzzles were all perfectly logical, on theme and added to the story. There is a means of check your answers on the accompanying website, and this is a great help! As with it being and open game, you need an order to put each all 7 puzzles in and this is done by a very nice in theme mechanic within the game! (discovering what gives you the order is almost a puzzle in itself!)
The puzzles had lovely ah-ha moments and never felt like “busy work”, the rapid solving gives the game a good sense of momentum and excellent flow, and the open nature means you never get “stuck” on any one puzzle for too long.
Signposting was excellent, not too in your face but still enough to guide even the most novice of players.
The Dupe is a beautifully made, designed and excecuted game and is a treat for enthusiasts and the perfect package for anyone wanting to dip their toes into the escape room/play at home world.
