Lockdown Ormskirk – The Lodge
Game Date: 24/05/2021
Team: Amy, Ian, Gord & L:iz
Duration: 60 Minutes
We finally teamed up with Gord and Liz from Review the Room, who we had played many games with over lockdown, it was so wonderful to finally meet in person. At the time of playing they were doing a MASSIVE near 60 room roadtrip all over the uk, and of course when they were coming up north we had to meet up and take on a few rooms, but how would we play as a team in person?
“One minute you are out in the woods, the next thing you know, you wake up in a strange cabin… it’s a matter of life or death… the question is, are you willing to fight for your freedom?”
The moment we set foot into the Lodge, all we could think of was Shia Lebeouf… such was the theme and setting and Lockdown had it spot on, a not so innocent shack in the woods, rustic homely but just a little bit sinister. The decoration was just… perfect! Well done, immersive, pretty and with nothing that was out of place or put in deliberatly to create red-herrings.
I’m a sucker for a good cabin room and this was done to a very, very high standard.
A fairly open game that filtered down into a more concentrated linear game by the end. A vast array of puzzles awaited us in this room, with math, logic, word, observation, deduction, searching, team work and decoding (of a fashion) all present within the room. The puzzles all were fuss free, and eloquent in their logic, with wonderful ah-ha moments that had a clarity that led to clear and dynamic gameplay.
The puzzles were all thoroughly intrinsic to the room, with them almost emerging from the very fabric of the room and being well intergrated until the time we solved them.
The flow was excellent, witht he aformentioned clarity in the puzzles meaning that the game flowed seamlessly and fluidly from puzzle to puzzle.
Signposting was delightful and kept well in theme.
Overall a really, really good room (albeit quick for us, but this is not down to content, there is plenty of that, we just collectively clicked with this room!) A GREAT room for newbiews too, as the puzzles are so logical it will for sure get people hooked on escape room. Enthusiasts will love the solid puzzling and attention to detail in the decor and puzzle design.
