Enigma Scunthorpe – The Graveyard

Theme:
“Welcome to The Graveyard! William Brown, once a wealthy townsman was executed for a crime he didn’t commit. His crypt has been hidden by falling rocks and hasn’t been seen for a very long time. Strange noises from beyond the cave are believed to be the evil spirit of William Brown looking to seek revenge against the living! Can you find the crypt and open the door for the world to see the truth and release the spirit within?”

The Graveyard looked good, an atmospheric set that was very “film noir” with a gothic feel and great use of smell and lighting.
The space was quite large and the decoration was just enough to suggest nefarious goings on and not so much to distract or disarm Players.
The lighting was quite dark throughout, at times this wasn’t a problem, as the atmospheric lighting worked for the majority of the game, coupled with some very unique torches, further added to the Immersion of the game.
However there were moments a little more light was needed. Particularly around the locks.
Overall though, through the good set and excellent lighting, smells and sound “The Graveyard” created a well rounded experience.

Game Play:

A linear game that had a decent variety of puzzles (albeit not all that many – this is still a work in progress and the game will be more fleshed out in the coming months) word, observation, searching, physical were the mainstays of this game.
The puzzles were all very logical and in theme with the room, fair and solvable and most importantly fun.
There was no ambiguity in the puzzles and whilst they’re not the most challenging for seasoned escape enthusiasts, they have good ah-ha moments and clear, concise answers.
There was an excellent use of theatre to pace the game, and a couple of really good jump scare moments!

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via a very helpful ghost!

Teagen was our game host, she was polite and attentive and ran our game well.

Covid19 Safety:
Masks were not required.
