“Can you help Percy with his peculiar predicament?

Percy Pendleton and his Wife Violet live above their modest haberdashery shop situated on Chapel street.

One rainy Tuesday afternoon Percy received a telegram all the way from Peru. The only person Percy knows in Peru is his rich Uncle Paolo who he hasn’t seen since he was a child.  Paolo owns a very lucrative pineapple plantation.

The telegram reads-

I’m sorry to inform you of your Uncle Paolo’s death.

His entire estate has been left to his loving Wife with the exception of a box he has asked to be sent to you.

Later that day a courier arrived and Percy couldn’t believe it when he saw two strong men struggle to lift the small package and bring it inside.  After they left Percy carefully lifted the lid to be greeted by a sight that made him sit down in complete shock.  A handwritten note sat on top of the items and it read-

My dearest Nephew Percy.

You always were my favourite relative and so these should set you up for life.

All my love

Uncle Paolo.

Inside the box were jewel encrusted solid gold pineapples, they must be worth an absolute fortune!  Percy started to panic, where would he keep them safe? This area of town is known for robbers and criminal gangs, and then….. a loud knock at the door!

“Oh my goodness, they’ve come for me already!” Percy was almost faint with panic as he opened the door.  He was filled with indescribable relief to find Tommy Tatler on his doorstep.  Tommy owns the Chapelgate tavern across the road and they’d been friends since they were kids.  Percy could always rely on Tommy to help him with any situation.

After showing him the precious pineapples and explaining everything, Tommy knew just what to do.  “I’ll hide these somewhere safe for you Percy, I’ve got lots of great hiding places in my tavern” Tommy said confidently, and off he went leaving Percy feeling like all his troubles were over.  He kept just one of the pineapples to sell and decided he’d gradually sell them off over time so as not to arouse suspicion.

Next morning Percy popped across to the Tavern to see Tommy, when he got there Tommy’s wife Rose was in a terrible state. “Tommy was here last night, I heard him banging about in the Tavern after he’d been to see you Percy,  then it all went quiet, when I came up from the cellar he was nowhere to be seen, where is he Percy?” She said.

We’ve searched day and night but it’s been almost a week now and no one’s seen him. Can you detectives help us find him? We don’t know if he’s dead or alive but Psychic Cybil the local clairvoyant and psychic has offered to help us.

What a peculiar predicament!”

Wow, just…. wow! Escape Quest have done it again, whilst Percy uses the same initial space as Copplestone, the space has been completley transformed, with brand new shope (we are, after all in a differet era!) and the attention to detail is second to none, further into the game, the high standards of decor and finish carry on, with beautiful sets that are so immersive it’s easy to lose yourself in the world of “chapel street” (And it REALLY is a street!) for an hour. The themeing is as close to perfection that you can get, the soundscape is beautiful and the lighting is perfect, enough to create atmosphere but never impacting gameplay. The space is more than large enough for any team size.

Game Play:
A beautiful game, that is mostly open, as there are many, many extra puzzles to be had along side the main game! The aim of the game is to complete the story, find out what’s happened to tommy AND (if you have time) recoup as many pineapples as possible (we got 10!) – This is where the game design truley shines, a real room that plays to each group perfectly. A newbie team can play here and just do the story and come out satisfied, but also, a more experienced team is going to revel in the many, many puzzles before them, and take the full hour too!
Puzzles were varied, with word, logic, observation, math…. in fact, there was every puzzle type you’d care to consume. Everyone is going to find “Their” puzzle in this room.
Puzzles were all exceptional in their logic, perfection, with the best ah-ha moments (which we have come to expect from Escape Quests design over the years!) and each and every one is a JOY to solve.
Flow was again, perfect, and the game kept moving at such a smooth yet speedy pace, we were never left stranded or blocked.
Sign-posting again… you guessed it… perfection. Just enough, with subtle cues leading you to those wonderful Ah-ha moments
All in all, this room just does IT. It has that magic X factor that makes the room even more than the sum of its part (and those parts are all special individually) A MUST PLAY

Clue System:
Clues were delivered via our friendly helper, but we didn’t use any!

Game Host:
Elaine and Mike were our hosts, with Elaine taking the helm of breifing and story, and Mike backstage! They were fabulous as usual, with a hilarious brief and story, which really got us ready to play the room

Did we escape?
Whilst “escaping” is precisely the goal, we completed the main story in around 40 minutes and went pineapple hunting for the last 20, finding 10 in total!
